5 energy tips that will help your pocketbook

Did you know that by saving energy you are not only saving the environment, you are also saving money on your energy bills? This makes doing what you can to cut down on the energy usage in your central Arizona home a no-brainer. Here are five ways that you can benefit from energy savings:

Repair your ductwork

Any damage found in your ductwork is most likely causing conditioned air to leak. This means that your heating and cooling systems are working more than they should get warm and cool air throughout your home. Also consider insulating your ducts, as this will keep warm air from seeping out during the winter months.

Insulate your attic

Heat rises. This means that without attic insulation, the heat your HVAC system produces in the winter will simply escape into the attic. There it will turn cold and drop back down into your home. This forces your furnace to reheat that cool air.

Install a programmable thermostat

Why warm or cool your home when no one’s home? This wastes energy and money. Investing in a programmable thermostat allows you to set the thermostat to automatically turn on and off, and will make a huge difference on heating and cooling bills.

Radiant heat barriers

Have a radiant heat barrier, which is a thin layer of metal insulation, installed in your attic in order to reduce the amount of heat transferred here from your home by almost 95 percent.

Install ceiling fans

During the summer, ceiling fans make you feel cooler, allowing you to keep your thermostat a few degrees higher. During the winter, ceiling fans help to spread your heat more evenly around a room, allowing you to keep your thermostat a few degrees lower. Using ceiling fans throughout the year will save energy and energy costs.
