More Comfort, Less Energy Bill — Learn HowYour home energy bill can be a hefty chunk of your monthly Phoenix expenses. These can get especially cumbersome during the extreme temperature of summer and winter. But saving money on these big expenses doesn’t have to be burdensome. You can lower your monthly energy costs with little effort, and without sacrificing your comfort. The following are some handy tips for bringing down those energy bills!

Make the thermostat work for you. Your home thermostat can be a front line defense against excessive energy costs. Consider installing a programmable thermostat with your central HVAC system. These nifty devices allow you to set automatic programming controls to adjust temperatures according to your sleep, work, and activity schedule. This will help you take a hands-off approach to maintain household temperatures that are energy-efficient when you’re not at home, and comfortable when you are.

Stay on top of air filter changing. Clogged and dirty air filters in your HVAC equipment can reduce your system’s airflow. This forces heating and cooling equipment to work harder to maintain your home at a comfortable temperature, as it has to use additional energy and force to push more conditioned air through clogged filters. Reduce your home energy bill by simply replacing or cleaning air filters once a month during heavy use seasons.

Utilize LED light bulbs. Energy inefficient incandescent light bulbs are currently being phased out in the United States. However, they still can be found on supermarket shelves. Begin replacing your home’s lighting with LED light bulbs that consume less energy and have a longer lifespan. Other helpful home light-saving techniques include taking advantage of Central Arizona’s sunny days and utilizing natural light, and use lighter paints in your rooms to better reflect existing light.

Seal air leaks. Spend a few hours this weekend inspecting around your door and windows for any potential air leaks. Conditioned air is prone to escaping through these areas, causing an unwanted energy bill to increase. Use caulking or weatherstripping to seal any problem areas.
